The basis of unmasked

Welcome to my first blog post! I’ve never written anything like this before, but I do hope that everyone enjoys reading my posts on ‘unmasked’. This first post is just a little introduction into what this blog will be about and who I am.

The face behind the blog!

My name is Nakeita and I am a woman who is 23 years old living my life in Manchester. I am a graduate who currently works within the hospitality industry. I have a chronic condition called Endometriosis, which currently has no cure but does have treatments available. Endometriosis affects roughly 1.5 million women in the United Kingdom. However, despite the large number of women who suffer from endometriosis, it is still a condition that is rather unheard of.

I have decided to create this blog ‘unmasked’ with the aim to raise awareness for endometriosis and to also share my experience and journey I have had with endometriosis so far. My decision to be so open publicly with this blog is in the hope that this blog will guide or support other women who suffer from endometriosis or who think that they may have endometriosis.

The idea behind the blogs name ‘unmasked’ is due to the fact that endometriosis takes around 7.5 years to be diagnosed from the start of the symptoms, until diagnosis it is a masked condition for a woman. Hopefully with the way technology and science is advancing the average diagnosis time will reduce.

My next post to follow will be focused upon my journey so far to date, which for anyone that is close to me knows it has been a very long journey. I may split the next post into two posts as I have a feeling that it will be rather lengthy.

If anyone has experienced endometriosis or any other chronic illnesses, please do get in touch and let me know how you’ve managed or been supported with them.

With love,

 Nakeita xoxo

  2. This is such a brilliant and empowering way for women to feel that they can talk so openly about such an ‘unmasked’ Illness. You are really brave for doing this and I hope that this brings to light what women have to go through and suffer. I had no idea the length of diagnosis and I wish this gives everyone an insight into what life is like living with a chronic illness.

    1. Aw thank you! I want to be like an open book with this blog and hopefully reach out to other women to support them. For my next blog you’ll be able to read all about my struggle and how long it took me for my diagnosis.

  3. So proud of my lovely brave niece. It’s very difficult still in this day and age for a female to speak out openly on health issues faced especially within the ethnic community. I surely believe this will help alot of females deal with this condition and give them confidence just like brave Nakeita. Go girl and very best for your blog. Xx
